Unless you’re Amish these days you’re going to need a metric ton of batteries for electronic devices, especially for your kid’s electronic toys. Whether the toy is a remote controlled car, an electronic hand held game, or a talking doll the simple fact is that the games and gadgets for children are going to need batteries. And these toys nowadays tend to go through batteries like a Hummer goes through premium unleaded. So how does a parent deal with this never-ending and expensive cycle of buying and throwing away batteries? ToyViews.com recommends you use rechargeable batteries for all your children’s’ precious electronic toys.
The easiest way to deal with batteries is to buy the rechargeable kind for all electronic toys. Rechargeable batteries and the accompanying chargers are available in all of the major stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. I’ve even seem them at grocery stores. There are tons advantages for using rechargeable batteries for your kids’ toys; but here are two big ones.
The first advantage is cost. When you consider a normal battery you may notice that the lower quality brands don’t last a week in some of the toys your kids play with. A generic battery probably won’t last seven days in a tickle me Elmo doll; the drain being placed on the battery is simply too high. Higher quality batteries like the Energizer and Duracell batteries aren’t much off. Buying rechargeable batteries will end up saving you a ton.
Here’s an example. A twelve pack of Duracell AA batteries sells for about $12 retail. My son’s LMAX would burn through that 12 pack in less than a month. That equals $144 per year on batteries for one toy. A Sony battery charger with 4 AA rechargeable batteries sells for about $30. Even if you pick up a spare 4 pack of rechargeable batteries for $14 retail (you always want a spare set while the other set is recharging) you are looking at a $44 investment. This is a savings of $100 a year for one toy. Add a few more toys are you are looking at a savings of several hundred a year. Those new cork screw light bulbs can’t offer that kind of savings!
Also, rechargeable batteries are friendlier to the environment. Disposing of hundreds of batteries a year is difficult to do and because almost all of the batteries you throw way end up in landfills where the acid inside them can seep out and damage the surrounding areas; especially ground water. Because rechargeable batteries are replaced much less often, the number of batteries being discarded is lower and ultimately the impact on the environment is lower.
At ToyViews.com we love toys (obviously) but it is a it is never a bad idea to do what you can to help the planet. Re-chargeable batteries do this in addition to allowing you to keep a little extra money in your pocket. Money for more toys!
